Google Merchant Center guide

Does Google Merchant Center Show Your Address Publicly?

Understand business address visibility in Google Merchant Center, how it differs from Business Profile, and what to check before setup.

Do not assume that an address submitted to Google Merchant Center will remain private in every context. Google says it uses submitted business information to display information to people viewing products online. However, that statement does not mean your full street address appears on every individual product listing.

The right question is where your business information may appear, which services are connected, and what information your website already publishes.

Why Merchant Center asks for an address

Google asks merchants for verifiable business information. Its guidance identifies the business address as the location where the business is registered.

For a home-based retailer, that can create a genuine privacy concern. Address it before onboarding by reviewing your business arrangements and applicable requirements, rather than entering an invented location.

Merchant Center and Google Business Profile are different

A Merchant Center business address and a public store location are not interchangeable concepts. A linked Google Business Profile can provide information about physical shops for local shopping experiences.

Google Business Profile has its own address rules and public presentation. Changing a Merchant Center field should not be treated as a universal privacy switch for all connected Google services.

Review each service separately and check which physical stores are linked.

How to check what customers can see

Begin with a signed-out search for your business name and inspect your website’s contact, legal, delivery, and returns pages. Then review any public Business Profile and the shopping experiences where your business appears.

Inside Merchant Center, compare the registered business details, customer support information, and connected stores. Record differences before changing them.

This is a verification exercise, not proof that information absent from one search can never appear elsewhere.

What if your registered business address is your home?

Use accurate information and seek advice about legitimate business-address arrangements appropriate to your situation. An alternative address must genuinely meet the requirements that apply to your business and the Google service involved.

Do not use a random address, pretend to operate a storefront, or assume a virtual office automatically satisfies every requirement. Those shortcuts can create mismatches that are harder to resolve later.

Common mistakes

One mistake is confusing a returns address with the registered business address. Another is updating Google while leaving contradictory information on the website.

A third is following advice about hiding a service-area business address in Business Profile as if it were a Merchant Center setting. Different products have different controls.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a universal “hide my address” switch?

Do not rely on one across Merchant Center, Business Profile, and your website.

Is my full address shown on every product?

That should not be assumed either. Check the actual public surfaces and current account guidance.

Should I remove required details for privacy?

Resolve the underlying address arrangement instead of supplying false or incomplete business information.
